Building Relationships for Good

Baptism

Baptism LogoWhat is baptism?

Baptism is a way of showing others that you have entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It symbolizes what took place in your heart at the time of salvation:

  • You accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • You shared in his death and resurrection, illustrated through baptism by going under the water (dead to your old life), then rising again (new life).
  • You were symbolically washed clean, and your sins were forgiven by his death on the cross.

Because Jesus instructed us to be baptized, baptism is an act of obedience. While it is not necessary for salvation, it demonstrates submission to God. We immerse because we believe Scripture shows that Jesus modeled that for us as the way to publicly acknowledge our faith in Him.

Am I ready for baptism?

Once someone professes faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, the Bible says they should proclaim the life change that has occurred. Baptism has always stood as a public testimony for people who have become believers in Christ.

Believers are those who have realized that their sins have separated them from God. They have given up all efforts to reach God through their own good works or religious activity. They have concluded that Jesus Christ’s death on the cross for their sins is the only thing that can bridge the gap between them and God. A believer is someone who has decided to trust Christ alone for his or her salvation.

If you have come to this point in your spiritual journey, then you are ready to be baptized!

Why doesn’t Circle baptize infants?

We believe baptism is for those who have made a personal decision to trust Christ alone for their salvation once they have the ability to understand what that means. As a general rule for how old one must be to have that ability, we have determined that a believer should be at least 12 years old to be baptized. Here is information on our Child Dedication process.

What are my next steps to be baptized at Circle?

  1. Complete the registration form.
  2. Once you have completed the registration form you will be given the opportunity to write out the highlights of the spiritual journey that has brought you to this important decision.

Baptisms take place at Circle on the last Sunday of each month. All your preparations need to be completed 3 weeks before that Sunday. A member of our baptism team will be in contact with you to confirm the details for the next Baptism Sunday.

You can see the latest baptism stories on video.

What if I have other specific questions?

You can contact Paul Morgun to ask your questions.
