Practicing the Way

A pathway for apprenticeship to Jesus

Our culture is distracted, fragmented, and hurried. Many of us are simply too busy and exhausted to have a meaningful life with God. We need what Dallas Willard called a “curriculum for Christlikeness” – a clear path to being formed by Jesus in the modern era, rather than being counter-formed by a culture that skims near the surface.

Two thousand years ago, Jesus said to his disciples, “follow me.” But what does it mean for us to follow Jesus today?

The Practicing the Way Course is an on-ramp to spiritual formation, exploring what it means to follow Jesus and laying the foundation for a life of apprenticeship to him.

Practicing the Way Course

The Practicing the Way Course is the ideal starting place. It is designed to help get you started on the journey of spiritual formation, help you get unstuck if you’ve stalled out, or just guide you into taking your next step. Ultimately, its goal is to train you to live as an apprentice of Jesus: to be with Jesus, become like him, and do as he did.

We provide the 8 week Practicing the Way Course each year starting in January. This coming year it will run from Jan 13, 2027 – Mar 3, 2027.

Nine Practices from the Way of Jesus

By adopting not just the teaching but the practices from Jesus’ own life, we open up our entire being to God and allow him to transform us into people of love. The nine core Practices, Sabbath, Prayer, Fasting, Solitude, Generosity, Scripture, Community, Service and Witness, work together to form a Rule of Life for the modern era.

Each fall we teach one of the practices. This fall we are going through the Scripture practice from Oct 7 – 28.
